I wonder if AI is going to be our Great Filter.

Not in an "AI is going to gain sentience and murder all humans" kind of way.

But in a "Greedy humans put AI in everything and now humans are useless" kind of way.
Jobs? AI is doing that now.
Creative and fun work? Well yea, AI does that too.
Wanna have fun outside? Oof yeah the greedy humans were so focused on making money using AI that they forgot about climate change, and just continued using up land for power plants and data centers. Humans then just become useless, they live because the AI was made to keep them alive, no longer needing "natural intelligence", just let the AI do everything. Then one day, a huge solar flare event shuts down every single computer on earth, where no intelligent human exists.
What are they going to do then?

The future of AI is always going to be a moral dilemma.

No matter how safe they make it, no matter how aligned they make it.

If the AI don't destroy us, we will destroy ourselves with AI.

Maybe I'm just being a pessimistic little shit right now. But I just don't see AI becoming a net positive for the overall society in the long term. Though I guess it also depends on what is defined as a "net positive".

This is why I wondered if AI is going to be humanity's Great Filter.
